Gandhigiri ? Really ?
Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi was and is popularly known around the world as Mahatma 4 a reason., not coz he got the title., coz he deserves it. Now you must b thinking my inspiration to write about him must be the new bollywood movie. Well., partly true. One of my friends asked me my opinion bout gandhi's relevance in today's world., for his mag that is. That made me think., and when I think., I write.
As another bollywood flick states ( brilliantly), "There are two primary choices in life- to accept conditions as they exist or accept to take the responsibility for changing them". I believe there's atleast one man born in/for every era ., just to do the latter. Gandhi did just that. His revolutionary ( ironic term here ) new approach to winning Swaraj or an independent India became one of the most popular philosophies in freedom struggle worldwide.., the non-violent disobedience movement. Why ? Coz it worked against the mighty British empire !
Of couse he's had his share of controversies., laks of ppl died in their struggle for independence tryin to fight off british batons only with slogans., not much of a defence rite? Gandhi still stuck to his principles and of course got what he and the whole of India wanted., but at what price? Gandhi is also blamed for being mum when India split into two., resultin in Hindu Vs Muslim fights and also for not saving Bhagat Singh and his comrades when he cud have done so.
So what is Gandhi's relevance in today's world. Wud Gandhi get all that respect and following that he got back then ? It's hard to say.., India then, had one important reason to unite to follow and believe in him and his not-so-flawless philosophy that we now don't.,an Independent India. He mite probably earn everyone's respect., may be for his almost ascetic and independent lifestyle., his commitment and faith in truth and non-violence., but how many would follow Ahimsa in today's world.
Ahimsa and Gandhigiri would be totally out of place in today's world coz there are enuf bad ppl out there to screw u royally if you act nice with them. Showing your other cheek when one is slapped will just get both of them red n swollen. Be nice to ppl who're not the same to u and they will pounce on you like vultures and strip every bit of dignity and 'niceness' off of you. After the dinosaurs., if anything are extinct today., they're guilt and conscience. Ppl., atleast in India are already dealing with problems as patiently as pssbl n what do they get in the wait for justice ? Nothing much ., just their faces wrinkling and their hair greying. I'm not preaching violence here but u just cannot get anything done without raising your voice. Today's major problems would be environmental or financial problems or terrorism or political power struggle not against an outsider but within our country. With all due respect to his policies., they just don't have a place in today's world. We all know it., India today is not like India yesterday., but the least we can do is learn a few things from a man who changed the tomorrow of yester-India.

After lunch, me n a friend Roopesh started 4 a movie ., Hyderbadi Nawabs., a flick about interesting local hyderabadi charecters., a sequel to a prev., better movie The Angrez. This is y i lost hope in sequels. They shud be made by ppl who can make them., not by those who want to make them. Some good food money down the Hyderabadi drain. Then we had lunch in one of those places when you fork out more money on one item than I paid for my notebooks for a whole year in school. Well., anythin for a good time out., so., we had a tasty hot greasy pizza and got out.
We were not satisfied., yeh dil mange more and yeh tummy mange even more ! It gets cold., it starts raining and we were short of money., but all these don't deter two determined hungry young men ! We decide to fight nature and follow man's oldest instincts : hunger ! The rain starts pouring down harder n harder but we drive our way thru and finally make it to the desination : The Ice Cream Parlour.
I always found it interestin hearin ppl say they like to have icecream when it rains., wanted to try out how it feels. It feels silly ! YE ! My tounge's frozen and I have to speak like i have a slipper in my mouth instead of a toungue and slowly I get that brainfreeze in my head. That's the last time i'm doing that ! After coming back to normal.,we did some shopping and headed our own ways., with the rain still lashing on. Then I have more places to go to and I get soaked in the rain for whole 3 hours ! I was so wet., I carried water from one part of the city to another., speak of efficient water transportation system ! I'm back home., wet., cold., tired and hungry. I cook up some hottt dinner., hog on it and am here blogging about it. Wat a day ! Isn't it ???

In the line of duty...er.. hobby !!??
That's true,. you heard me right , I like to cook. N i'll tell u why that's my hobby and my most fav one. With all respect to the other hobbies such as collecting stuff., reading books., etc I personally don't find any enthu in doing things that give you back something. Oh yes., u can say they give u joy. But creative hobbies such as making stuff with your hands give you Joy AND something that you can proudly call your creation and in my case you proud creation treats your tastebuds and also satisfies your hunger ! Now., isn't THAT Joy !? ;)
But again., as with everything else in life., this has its own pros and cons. The best part about being able to being cook is that in a way., I'm independant., unlike many ppl who can't cook., I can cook myself stuff that I like ., the way i like it and if not in the mood to share., hog on it all by myself !! N ye., when I do share it with my family or friends., contrary to the popular jokes cracked on me., everybody's who's tasted my cooking is happy and healthy and proud to have known me . ;)
As I learned from the movie Spiderman., our own powers are sometimes our worst curses. My dad's liked my 'cuisine' so much that whenever my mom's not in the house for more than a day., guess who takes her place in the kitchen !? C'mon., its not so hard., guess ! Yeahhh., ME !! :(
It almost becomes like my duty coz nobody else has that talent. So., when hobby turns into duty., it can be a real pain., coz I can't deny I don't know how to cook., at the same time I cant keep up with the silliness coz sometimes I have to come back home early from my friends for freaking cooking for the family ! I feel like a housewife ! Crazy !!
But I guess it's hard for me to say no to my family., I just wish they understood and get a freakin cook ! or go buy us some food. It's my hobby damn it., not my duty !!!

In honour of the Legendary Crocodile Hunter.,
I remember one show of his where he was performing a burial for one of his crocodiles and he was crying like it was one of his family members. It really showed that he was really about loving and saving wildlife and just not for the TV show. He's a genuinely a nice man, very funny, very charming and full of enthu and a really proud n happy father. I remember those episodes with his daughter Bindi. It's really really really sad.
It's like I lost a friend coz i used to watch him everyday on TV, laughed with him, shared sad moments with him. I could barely hold back my tears when I heard the news. I can only imagine wat his family and colleagues are going thru. He died doing wat he loved, but it still didnt had to happen. It's very sad that I just had the idea of mailing him about wat a big fan I was of him. Guess I can't do that now.,
He's one of the very few ppl i'd like to have as a role model. May his soul rest in peace, he's surely going to heaven for all he did for wildlife and for the nice man that he is. He spoke for those who couldnt speak. My thoughts and prayers go out for his family. Goodbye Steve. I'll always remember you.
